I am so very sad to have to pass along this news. Georgia, one of the dogs from the Michael Vick dogfighting case, has passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Her age was taking its toll, and her kidneys could just no longer keep up.
“All of the Vicktory dogs captured our hearts, but maybe none more than Georgia. From her time on the National Geographic show ‘DogTown,’ she was an instant star. That wonderful smile and loving personality won everyone over – whether she met someone in real life or through a television screen.”
When the dogs were first rescued, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recommended they be euthanized because their brutal past had made them unsuitable for adoption. A PETA spokeswoman told the Associated Press, “These dogs are a ticking time bomb. Rehabilitating fighting dogs is not in the cards.”
But BFAS, Bad Rap and other rescue organizations – along with Georgia and the Vicktory dogs – certainly proved them wrong.” I love dogs

Did you know there are snowshoeing opportunities within the County Park and in the Coughlin Natural Area?! Here is a map outlining the trail within the Coughlin Natural Area. Snowshoeing is also allowed in County park but please keep off of the groomed cross country ski trails. Now all we need is some of the white stuff, snow!

The snow will be here before we know it. Once we obtain an adequate amount of snow fall, the traditional groomed cross country ski trail route in the Winnebago County Park will open for skiers. Here is the map of the route. This map will also be posted out in the park kiosk by the pavilion. Parking is allowed in the lot across the street from the dog park during the winter months and access into the park during the winter months is through the County Rd Y entrance.
Trail status updates for snowmobiling and cross country skiing are posted on the Travel Wisconsin website and we will post trail status changes on this page as well.
