Georgia, until we meet again

12.2.13_Georgia-VicktoryDog-7I am so very sad to have to pass along this news. Georgia, one of the dogs from the Michael Vick dogfighting case, has passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Her age was taking its toll, and her kidneys could just no longer keep up.
“All of the Vicktory dogs captured our hearts, but maybe none more than Georgia. From her time on the National Geographic show ‘DogTown,’ she was an instant star. That wonderful smile and loving personality won everyone over – whether she met someone in real life or through a television screen.”
When the dogs were first rescued, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recommended they be euthanized because their brutal past had made them unsuitable for adoption. A PETA spokeswoman told the Associated Press, “These dogs are a ticking time bomb. Rehabilitating fighting dogs is not in the cards.”
But BFAS, Bad Rap and other rescue organizations – along with Georgia and the Vicktory dogs – certainly proved them wrong.” I love dogs

Dog Winter Coats

1828353_origI have had several requests as to where to find winter coats for dogs.  Many of you also have “hard” to fit in standard sizing.   K& D Custom Collars and more can help!
“Dog coats.  These coats will be made of flannel fabric and will be quilted in the middle with batting to make them extra warm.  The sizes will be offered in small, medium and large at this time.   I can also make these in any fabric that I have and will place batting inside to make them extra warm for winter.  If, you have a special request please let me know.   (This is Diesel Megan’s German Shepherd and he is wearing the Large and he is 100 pounds.) **Shipping is $5.00**,” K& D Custom Collars and More  http://kdcustomcollarsandmore.weebly.com/dog-coats.html

Snowshoeing opportunity in the Coughlin Natural Area Trail

1452057_10152076617787994_1874304393_nDid you know there are snowshoeing opportunities within the County Park and in the Coughlin Natural Area?! Here is a map outlining the trail within the Coughlin Natural Area. Snowshoeing is also allowed in County park but please keep off of the groomed cross country ski trails. Now all we need is some of the white stuff, snow!

Winnebago County Community Park Ski Trail

From our Friends at Winnebago County Parks Department.
The snow will be here before we know it. Once we obtain an adequate amount of snow fall, the traditional groomed cross country ski trail route in the Winnebago County Park will open for skiers. Here is the map of the route. This map will also be posted out in the park kiosk by the pavilion. Parking is allowed in the lot across the street from the dog park during the winter months and access into the park during the winter months is through the County Rd Y entrance.
Trail status updates for snowmobiling and cross country skiing are posted on the Travel Wisconsin website and we will post trail status changes on this page as well.

20 Reasons You Absolutely Need A Dog In Your Life

I gave my dogs a huge hug after writing this. They are truly amazing animals.

1. They empathize With Human Pain

Goldsmiths College released a study that showed more dogs will approach someone who’s crying or in distress than someone who is not. This shows that dogs are empathetic and are eager to help comfort humans in pain.

Daylight Saving Time: How "Falling Back" Can Mess With Your Dog's Head

Early Sunday morning it’s time for us to “fall back,” adjusting our clocks one hour backward to segue out of Daylight Saving Time and back to Standard Time. Does that extra hour affect our pets? You bet it does.
Earlier this year we spoke with some experts about this, and although they addressed the “spring forward” change, the concepts are the same. They explained that dogs are creatures of habit, and they love consistency in their daily schedule. When the old familiar routine is disrupted, the change can affect a dog’s behavior.
Dogs have adjusted themselves to humans’ wacky behavior since the first wolf decided to let itself be domesticated. For the most part, they’re used to synchronizing their routine to ours; but sometimes, they could use a little help.

Just let me zzzzz!
