Sky’s had been in and out of shelters her whole life, she had separation anxiety, cowered at loud noises and didn’t play. In August of 2010 that changed. Sky became part of a family. A family that worked with the good and the challenging and made it work. Three years later, a brother, a beagle cattle dog also from the shelter and a foster beagle sister , Sky is the princess of her domain. She keeps her bother and sister in inline, watches the neighbor kids out the window, barking at them when they are naughty and sunbathes as often as possible. Riding in the car and going to the Park are some of her favorite things right behind pets, hugs and lots of gentle touching. Sky has her forever home!
Recipe Ideas for Quick and Healthy Homemade Dog Treats
By Nicole Pajer (contributed from Ceasar’s Way Website)
Making your own homemade dog treats can be a fun reward for you dog. There are many benefits to making your own dog treats at home.
- Control what goes into the recipe. You can ensure that your pet is getting a nutritious and wholesome snack. You can also tailor your dog treat recipes to your dog’s taste preferences as well as cater to any dietary restrictions.
- Prevent unhealthy additives. Many brands of commercial dog treats are filled with preservatives, which help to extend their shelf life. In addition, store bought treats are often made from fillers and byproducts as opposed to natural and high quality ingredients. By creating your own treats at home, you will be able to provide your dog with a healthy snack that is not only nutritious but is also free of unhealthy additives.
- Tasty alternative. Making your own dog treats allows you to provide your pet with a tasty alternative to his usual doggie biscuit.

Food at Best Friends Dog Park
Currently there is no rule against people or dog food / treats at Best Friends Dog Park in Winnebago County Community Park. People have been reasonable and careful of other potential food aggressive dogs in the park for the most part. Recently more and more people are bringing in food and allowing their children to have food in the dog park. Today someone was feeding their dogs lunch (Kibble) inside the dog park. While this was happening there were multiple dogs in the park and some were food aggressive. Once the dogs heard the “ting ting” of the kibble hitting the metal dog dish they came a running. Some of the dogs that went running are food aggressive. This was a dangerous situation. Please if you are bringing any type of food in the dog park, be respectful of other dogs and owners. Some dogs may have food allergies so your child dropping a cracker may seem harmless to you and could be harmful to another. Please be aware that there could be dogs in the dog park that are food aggressive and will want to get ALL of our food. Please be aware and keep extra eyes out for dogs that come over while giving treats. Please do not give any dogs other than your dog (so) treats without asking the owner first.
We will be discussing “food” at Best Friends Dog Park and changing the Rules to NO FOOD, at our next meeting Saturday, Nov 9th, 9am- 10:30am at the Town of Menasha Municipal Building.
